William Henry Hansen

William Henry Hansen, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2020. Bill was born in Tucson, AZ, December 28, 1943, to Henry and Rebecca Hansen.

Bill is survived by his wife of 53 years, Toni; sons, Brian (Tautra) and Adrian (JaMi); grandsons, Kyle and Patrick (Tami); brothers, Michael and David (Ruth); and nephews, Matthew and Aaron.

Bill graduated from the University of Arizona in 1966 with a degree in Business Administration. He was an Arizona State Trooper from 1966 to 1970. He was a Federal Narcotics Agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration from 1971 to 2001. Bill’s posts of duty began in Phoenix, AZ, and included San Jose, Costa Rica, San Diego, CA, Washington D.C., ASAC in Miami, FL and ASAC in Albuquerque, NM where he retired in 2001.

Bill enjoyed Tuesday breakfasts with his group of other retired friends at Weck’s where they solved the world’s problems. He enjoyed Friday lunches with friends and was a familiar and imposing figure at the Jewish Community Center Gym where he worked out several times a week and was affectionately known as “the Gentle Giant.” Bill competed in the NM Senior Olympics for five years and consistently won 1st place in Power Lift, Dead Lift, Shot Put and Discus. He also coached girls’ fields events at Albuquerque Academy. Throughout his life, he enjoyed basketball, baseball, football, martial arts, boxing, and Krav Maga self-defense classes. Bill was a lifelong believer in physical fitness.

Special thanks to our Visiting Angels caregivers, Michael, Joseph, Karlina, and Vanessa. They were attentive and gentle in their care of Bill.

To his wife, children, grandchildren and other family members, Bill was sincerely loved. He strove to be an example of respect, honesty and loyalty. He was a loving and generous man. Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Memorial Services will be held Thursday, January 30, 2020, 4:00 p.m., at FRENCH – Wyoming. Mass will be celebrated Monday, February 3, 2020, 1:00 p.m., at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
