William C. "Bill" Maroney and Wilberta L. "Berta" Maroney were reunited in eternity on December 13, 2016.
Bill Maroney was born on July 20, 1920 and entered the presence of Jesus Christ on April 15, 1997. He was the son of Cash R. Maroney and Jessie Drake Maroney of Kokomo, Indiana where he grew up with three sisters, attended Kokomo High School, and worked in his father's auto repair business. He studied cornet with Ross Dwiggins and was active in the Latin Club. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1940 and was stationed at Eagle Pass, Texas at the time he and Berta were wed in 1943.
Wilberta Chappell was born on February 20, 1920 in Otisco, Indiana to Ruby Hopwood Chappell and George Chappell. She grew up in Kokomo with three sisters and one brother and graduated from Kokomo High School in 1939. She worked in Coady's Grocery and in an aircraft parts factory until she joined Bill in San Antonio for their wartime wedding. They lived in Eagle Pass, Texas, Norfolk, Virginia, and San Antonio, Texas as Bill served eight years in the Army Air Corps/Air Force, settling in San Antonio. After a short stint as an auto mechanic, Bill joined the civil service working at Kelly and Wright-Patterson Air Force bases, retiring in 1978. He attended every appropriate tech school and progressed in his career to jet engine design, working on the F15 and F16 projects. Bill enjoyed auto mechanics and restoration, deer hunting, and gun collecting. He taught men's Sunday school classes for many years. Berta was a loving wife for 54 years and mother for many more. She cared for a mentally ill loved one for 64 years, which is her badge of honor. She loved to sew and garden. Bill & Berta attended Southside Baptist, Parkside Baptist, and Northridge Park Baptist churches. In retirement years, Bill had a second career teaching small engine mechanics and shop in the Alamo Heights school district. Bill and Berta also joined the pro-life movement in San Antonio in their retirement years.
Bill and Wilberta had seven children and raised five, two babies going on to heaven. They were preceded in death by four sons. They are survived by three daughters, three sons-in-law, ten grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Mission Park Cemetery, 1700 SE Military Drive, San Antonio, Texas.
