Steven J. Fernandez

Steven J. Fernandez, age 66 of Rio Rancho, NM passed away suddenly on Monday, July 15, 2019 at his home.

Steve was born January 26, 1953 in Canton, OH. The oldest of five children, Steve was preceded in death by his father, Joe Fernandez; his grandson, Aidan and his aunt, Betty Reno.

He is survived by his mother, Jeanne Fernandez; his wife, Patricia, son Logan, daughter-in-law, Cheryl and grandson, Lucian; one brother, Jeffrey Fernandez and his wife Wendy; sisters, Suzi Fernandez, Beth Phillips and her husband, Jimmy; and Lisa Johnson and her husband, Rob; nephews, Jeffrey Fernandez Jr. and his wife, Linda, Derek and Tyler Johnson and Eric Bailey; nieces, Andrea Fernandez and her partner, Sharon, Shelby and Tessa Phillips, Tonia Frisbee and her husband, Mike, and Catherine Highfield and her husband, Tom; great-nephews, Shane, Emory and Theron; great-niece, Ellie Kate; and sister-in-law, Teresa Welch.

Steve received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Washington State, attended graduate studies at the University of Idaho and received his bachelor’s degree from Centre College. He was employed as a leading researcher and project manager at national laboratories in Idaho Falls, ID, Santa Fe, NM, and Oakridge, TN. His greatest achievement however was becoming the CEO of his own company, Almeria Analytics after retirement.

Steve was also a fierce supporter and fundraiser for the Children’s Grief Center of Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks to consider giving to the Children’s Grief Center.
