Robert S. Turner

First and foremost, Robert S. Turner was a loyal and dedicated friend. He will always be remembered as a decorated, devoted and brave combat soldier of the United States Army and Army Reserve. He was loved deeply and will be missed by many. Turner is survived by his mother, Darlene Turner, and multiple friends, who were more family than family could ever be.
Sergeant First Class Robert S. Turner is a native of New Mexico. Robert graduated from Elida High School in Elida, New Mexico in 1988. He joined the United States Army National Guard on April 14, 1986 and attended Basic Combat Training and Light Air Defense Artillery and was a crew member in Advanced Individual Training at Fort Bliss, Texas.
His education includes the Light Air Defense Artillery Course, Infantry School, Basic Airborne Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, NBC Defense Course, Army Pre-Commission Course, Advance Noncommissioned Officers Course, Senior Leaders Course, Transportation Management Coordinator Course, Unit Movement Officers Course, Unit Movement Planners Course, Joint Operations Planning and Execution System Support Personnel Course, Motor Transport Operator Course, Senior Customs Officer Course, Battle Command Sustainment System Course, the Anti-Terrorism Officer Basic Course, Intermodal dry cargo container/CSC Re-inspection Course, Sexual Harassment/Response and Prevention Course, Contracting Officer Representative Course and the Total Ammunition Management Information System Course.
SFC Turner's previous assignments include 4th battalion 200th ADA, Clovis, NM, 1st BN 505th PIR. 82nd Airborne Division, Ft. Bragg, NC, ODA 223 2nd BN 12th SFG(A) Ft. Bliss, Texas, the Counter Drug Support NMANG Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, NM, HHC 3rd BDE 101st Airborne Division, Ft. Campbell, Ky., 720th Transportation CO. Las Vegas New Mexico, 372nd QM Bn., Albuquerque, NM, 1190th Deployment Support Brigade, Baton Rouge, La.1179th Deployment
Support Brigade, Ft Hamilton, NY. 877th QM Co, Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, NM. 2206th Mobilization Support Battalion and Senior Transportation Operations Sergeant.
SFC Turner has mobilized in support of Operation Desert Storm and in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Katrina. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (with 1 OLC), the Army Good Conduct Medal, the South West Asia Service Medal (with 1 BSM), the National Defense Service Medal (with 1 Bronze Star), the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal (with 1 BSS), the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Service Medal (with 1 BSS), the Iraqi Campaign Medal (with Arrow Head device and 3 Battle Stars), the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M device and Numeral 3, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon with the numeral 3 device, Defense of Saudi Arabia Medal, Liberation of Kuwait Service Medal, Over Seas Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, Basic Parachutist Badge and the Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver-W Bar.
SFC Turner was currently employed as a private investigator who worked for numerous companies conducting fugitive investigations and arrests. He has more than 500 hours of advanced law enforcement training hours from the New Mexico Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at FRENCH - Westside. Interment will be held Friday, January 13, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe Street.
