Michael Scott Ross (Mike), age 57, beloved father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend passed away on Monday August 9, 2021, after a brief and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. From the time he was diagnosed, Mike maintained a positive outlook, never complained, and gained his strength through his faith.
Mike is so loved by his family and friends. His passing leaves a tremendous void in so many lives and this world. Mike is survived by his two sons Darrell and Billy Ross, his loving parents Bill and Elaine Ross and Patti and Ray Spain, grandmother Dian Burrell, sisters Jayne Faith (husband John), Debbie Garcia, Becky Ross, brother Joe Ross (wife Tara), special friends Jeff and Brenda DeWalt, his step brothers, step sisters as well as many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Mike was preceded in death by his nephew Sean Markey and his cherished grandfather, Buddy Burr.
Mike was born on September 12, 1963, in Albuquerque, NM. He raised his two sons by himself and shared many great adventures with them. Mike had many adventures and worked in a variety of fields until he found a landing place with Verizon from which he retired in 2018. After retiring he went back to school to follow his passion, filmmaking and photography. Up until his passing, he worked for Sopapilla Productions, had several appearances and contributed to many television shows and movies. Mike also had a passion for riding his Harley, music, books, and exploring the sights of New Mexico. Mike had a gift of making new friends in unique circumstances, told the best stories, and loved to make people laugh. He had many nicknames, Thumper being the most popular. He also had a knack for finding just the right nickname for some people. He was a die hard romantic and was always in pursuit of true love. He loved everyone fiercely and unconditionally. He was always true to himself and sincere.
Mike was larger than life, had a heart of gold, and loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In 2018, he was baptized on the River Jordan in Israel. He was very passionate and active with the Citizen Church and helped in all aspects including parking and videography. Mike especially had a heart for the work that Citizen Church did for the homeless population of Albuquerque. He collected warm clothes and other supplies for the homeless and passed them out on Friday nights.
A service to celebrate Mike’s life will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 1:00 p.m., at the Citizen Church, 10500 Copper Ave, Albuquerque, NM 87123. In lieu of flowers, he would have appreciated a donation to the Citizen Church Streets Ministry. You can donate there by visiting citizen church/give and write “In memory of Mike Ross” in the memo section, all donations will go directly to help fund that ministry.
** For attire, we'll be dressed in jeans and Harley Davidson tshirts/ rock band tshirts. We believe this will truly honor Mike. I have negotiated a group discount at Thunderbird Harley Davidson in Albuquerque. If you'd like to get a Harley shirt, please reach out to me and I will help facilitate.
