Mary Ann Kosty

Mary Ann Kosty has passed from this world to the outstretched arms of Our Lord Jesus and Our Most Blessed Mother Mary, after a long battle with cancer. She died at home while under the loving care of her children and friends from Heartland Hospice along with friend, Tanya McGuire.

Mary Ann was a 1951 graduate of Hayden High School in Topeka, Kansas then immediately followed her passion for becoming a nurse by attending St. Francis Nursing School, also in Topeka, Kansas. She became a Registered Nurse in 1954 and continued her career for more than 40 years.

In 1955 she married Joseph Kosty of Rahway, New Jersey. Their 60-year marriage produced six children, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She is remembered most for her beautiful, loving heart, love of children, flowers and animals. Her smile, beautiful green eyes and her sense of humor brought so much happiness to all those who knew her. She is also remembered for truly being dedicated to doing God’s work by caring for so many throughout her life.

Mary Ann was “The Neighborhood Nurse” when a child or adult needed patching up or nursing back to health. She was “Mom” to countless friends of her children and the “Go To” lady when it came to advice on flowers and health related matters.

All children made her happy. Right up to the time of her death, she would beam with joy when seeing a smiling infant or laughing child. Near death she would say how she couldn’t wait to meet her babies in Heaven that she lost before they could be born. “….and if there are others who need their Mama, I will take care of them until their mom comes.”

Mary Ann was the 4th child of George William Francis West and Maria Victoria Tafoya West.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Thomas J. West and William R. West, husband, Joseph and many life time nurse friends.

Mary Ann is survived by her loving sister, Florence Eggenberger, of Houston Texas; children, Joseph G. Kosty and wife Trish, Monica Mayfield and daughters Melissa Ayrey (husband Kyle and children Trinity and Eli) and Rebecca Mayfield, Charles J. Kosty (Chip), wife Esther and their children Amanda and Kevin Kosty, Alesia M. Bellamente (Lisa) and husband Steven, Timothy P. Kosty and Thomas M. Kosty, wife Lori and their children Noah and Ava Kosty. Mary Ann also leaves behind her dear niece and “third daughter” Emily J. Kosty and husband Tom Sullivan along with many many nieces and nephews and friends.

A Rosary will be held Monday, September 10, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church at 3700 Canyon Rd. Los Alamos, NM 87544 with a Funeral Mass of Remembrance to follow at 11:00 a.m. The Interment will be held at Guaje Pines Cemetery at 901 Range Rd. Los Alamos, NM 87544 immediately afterward.
