Marion was born in Monticello, AK on July 15, 1920 to Eva and Robert Jones. She was born at Auntie Cason’s house. The Doctor lived right across the street. When she was two years old, her father died of Bright’s disease whereupon Marion was sent to live with Aunt Francis and Uncle Waldo Rabe in Brookline, MA. At age six, Marion was sent to live with Auntie Cason’s daughter in Warren, AK while her Mom went to secretarial school for a year. After that, she and her Mom lived with Auntie Cason for two years until her mother got a job in Little Rock, AK. Eva lost her job due to the Great Depression when Marion was 12. Now Marion and Eva went to live with Aunt Francis back in MA for two years until Eva got a job in the area. When Marion graduated from Newton High School, she moved to New York City to pursue a modeling career. In 1939 she worked for Curtis Candy at the World’s Fair.
Marion met her future husband, Barney, over Labor Day 1942 in Great Barrington, MA, and were married in the Little Church Around the Corner in White Plains on January 24, 1943. She worked at Sperry Gyroscope while Barney taught electrical engineering at NYU. After the birth of two children, Bernard III (Biff) and Janet, the family moved to Lewisburg, PA where Barney taught at Bucknell University and Marion acted in community theater. Biff’s acute asthma prompted the family to move to Albuquerque, NM in 1952, where Barney worked at Sandia Corporation. From that point on, Marion was a homemaker, and an active volunteer for schools, church, and community. Barney died of cancer in 1973, and Marion continued volunteer work and lived independently until 2014. Failing health prompted her move to The Village at Alameda, where she lived happily with loving support of the staff there. She was kept comfortable and happy in her final months with the wonderful care of Legacy Hospice at the Village.
