Juan Carlos Romero

Juan Carlos Romero, 26, passed away from a fatal gunshot wound on February 7, 2017. He was born on June 15, 1990 in Albuquerque, NM to Carlos and Patricia Romero. Juan Carlos graduated from St. Pius X High School in 2008. He obtained two bachelor's degrees in economics, philosophy and fine arts from the University of New Mexico in 2014. Juan Carlos planned to enter the graduate degree program in philosophy with the hope of becoming a professor. He worked as a substitute teacher at charter schools and taught various subjects. He also assisted in his father's business and worked with nonprofit organizations. He worked in various art mediums that included but were not limited to printmaking, drawing and painting. Many of Juan Carlos' works were featured in New Mexico art galleries. He was an avid reader and loved to write. He influenced his family, friends, and students through his teachings, deep conversations, infectious laugh and positive energy. He was a unique, generous and brilliant young man.
Juan Carlos is survived by his parents, Patricia and Carlos Romero; sister, Victoria Sype; brother-in-law, Peter Sype and nephew, Hunter Sype.
A Visitation will be held Friday, February 17, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Westside. A Rosary will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd NW. A Reception will follow the Mass at St. Pius X High School, St. Cecilia Fine Arts center, 5301 St. Josephs Drive NW. A private family burial will take place at a later date and time.
