John Joseph Mullen

John Joseph Mullen passed away on June 27, 2018, in Albuquerque, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Missouri Valley, Iowa, on May 31, 1930.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Velma Mullen; and his children, Janet Estepp and husband, Gary, Joyce Mullen and husband, Ron Wild, Tim Mullen and wife, Adibeh, Shawn Mullen and wife, Julie, Trisha Smith and husband, Don, Joan Semeria and husband, Bernard and Sheila Mullen. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, Shannon Overton, Greg Mullen, Willa Mullen, Nasim Mullen, Shirin Mullen, Shane Smith, Ryan Smith, Jack Mullen, Gabby Mullen, Sam Mullen, Liam Semeria, Claire Semeria, Bella Mullen; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan Mullen and Samira Silva. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Patrick Orion Mullen.

After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa, John joined the U.S. Navy and later served in the U.S. Air Force. As a civil service employee, he worked at White Sands Missile Range, Holloman AFB and Kirtland AFB where he retired in 1988.

John will be remembered for making people laugh with his jokes and stories and for always being ready to lend a hand to someone in need. He was a man of honor who loved his wife and family very much. In addition to being a big Notre Dame football fan, he celebrated his Irish heritage in many ways. He will be greatly missed by his wife, "one and a half dozen" and many others. Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

A Rosary and Eulogy will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2018, 7:00 p.m., at FRENCH - Wyoming,

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 12, 2018, 10:00 a.m., at Risen Savior Catholic Church, 7701 Wyoming NE, with a reception immediately following at FRENCH – Wyoming.
