John Philip Martsh, 77, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family in prayer November 12th, 2021.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Martsh and Maria Elvira Martinez; and brother, James Martsh.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Carmen of 54 years; son, John Martsh and wife Iara; daughter, Therese Martinez and husband Ricardo, daughter, Natalie Buriel and husband Juan; grandchildren, Ives Morino, Aracely and Alana Martinez, and Isabel Buriel; sisters, Shirley Devargas and Barbara Fresquez (Paul); sister-in-law, Rosella, sister-in-law, Ramona; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
John was raised in Espanola. He was a proud alumnus of Espanola High School and of the University of New Mexico. He enjoyed a 30-year career with the Federal Government which enabled him to travel to different states and overseas. After retiring from the Federal Government, he became the Director of Security at Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, NM where he worked for 6 years before final retirement.
John had a passion for life, which could be seen when he was engaged in some of his favorite activities such as reading, cooking, fishing, hunting, and gardening. He had a deep devotion to the Holy Eucharist and to the Blessed Mother. He served in many church groups, among which included being a Eucharistic Homebound Minister, praying the Rosary, and volunteering time at the local food bank.
John will be remembered by his family and friends as a leader and inspiration. He was an example of how to live a life of faith devoted to our Lord who he expressed a great yearning to be with during his last days on earth.
Rosary, followed by Eulogies, will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH Funerals & Cremations, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE Albuquerque. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 2, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at The Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11509 Indian School Road. NE, Albuquerque.
Interment will follow the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7999 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque.
