John Joseph Houser

John Joseph Houser, known all his life as "Jack" to family and friends, was born on February 24, 1939, in Willow Grove, Pa. and died at home with his wife Jan on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, after many years of suffering. Jack is survived by his wife Jan, brothers Robert and David and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack attended Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia and Villanova University for undergraduate school. He was graduated from Pennsylvania State University in January 1963, with a PhD in Chemistry. After post-doctoral work at The University of Chicago Jack joined the Chemistry faculty at The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio, in the fall of 1965. Jack and his wife Jan met in 1967 at the university where she was teaching in the Department of Modern Languages. Jack and Jan were married in 1968. Jack taught and did research at the university, and he was promoted to Full Professor in 1983. Jack and Jan retired in 1995 and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Jack had multiple interests, was an accomplished woodworker and photographer. He and Jan designed and had built their Albuquerque home. Jack designed and built much of their furniture, and he created, printed, matted, and framed all of the 104 photographs on their walls. Jack loved classical music and opera and had more than 300 CDs of that music.

Jack Houser was a good, a kind and a talented man, much loved by those who knew him.
