Joan C. Gammie

Joan C. Gammie, age 88, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021. Born on December 31, 1932, in Harvey, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Marie (Nielson) Worcester. She graduated from high school in Harvey, IL, received a bachelor's degree in Education from Northern Illinois University, and a Master's in Education from National College of Education, Evanston, IL. She taught in Dekalb and Dolton, IL, and Vashon, WA, until her retirement. On June 16, 1956, in Harvey, IL, she married the late Richard Gammie (2016) of Waukegan, IL.

They were blessed with three children. They both retired in 1990 and moved to Cherokee Village, AR. They spent 23 wonderful years with old friends living on the lake and taking in sunsets. Joan was a dedicated member of Cherokee Village United Methodist Church. She was active in her CV United Methodist circle, helped wherever needed in church activities, and directed the church Joy Ringers, a three-octave bell choir. She was a member of the Cherokee Village Women's golf association, the Community Chorus, and a former president of the Woman's Club. She and Richard later moved to Albuquerque, NM, to be closer to family. Joan was always known for her kind words and warm smile. She enjoyed music, golf, bridge and reading.

She is survived by two children, daughter Donna (Joe) Kirby; and son, Bill (Andrea) Gammie. Eldest daughter, Linda (Russ) Skocypec passed away in 2016. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Stephanie, Valerie, Rachel, Cassandra, and Ryan; and her three great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Gavin, and Rosemary. Joan will be greatly missed by her family, friends, church, and community.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., Faith Lutheran Church, 10,000 Spain Road NE in Albuquerque.
