Janice "Jan" Sypher, 82, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed peacefully from this world on Monday, March 22, 2021.
Jan was born, along with her twin sister Janet, on a small farm in Carroll, County Iowa on June 9, 1938. Our mother is survived by her loving husband of 63 years Gerald (Jerry), their children Steven, Kenneth, Shelly, Scott and Kelly. She was Grandma to Jason, Ashley, Stephanie, Rachel, Michael, Kenna, Megan, Kenzie, Molly, Joseph, Bailey, and, Leland. Mom was great Grandma to Jackson, Logan, Tessa, Blake, Liam, Corvin and Dean. Jan was proceeded in death by her parents Leo and Bernice Hagedorn, her sisters Janet and Darlene, and her brother Ronald.
After graduating from East High School in Omaha, Nebraska, Mom worked her way through Omaha Technical school and received her certification to work as a Hair Stylist in Omaha. In 1956, she met our dad, Jerry. He was stationed at the US Strategic Command Center, in Omaha and they met on a blind date. On June 15, 1957 they were married in Rockford, Illinois. Mom and Dad started their family in 1959 in La Vista, Nebraska where the first 4 of 5 children were born. They moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1965. In 1971, they moved to Westminster, Colorado where their youngest daughter joined the family. In 1976, the family relocated to Woodstock, Illinois where Mom reentered the workforce at the Old Courthouse Inn. In 1979, the family relocated to Pleasanton, California. In 1984, Mom and Dad made their last big move to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Mom was a dedicated wife and mother. She was a terrific grandmother and great grandmother. Her grandchildren loved to spend the “weekends” with her. They relished her traditional midnight snacks and cool hairdo’s. Mom also loved to spend time with her friends. They often gathered for shopping, lunch, dinner, and at gaming establishments.
Mom was very close to her mother and her eldest sister, Darlene. As her mother aged, she spent a week out of every month sleeping on her mother’s couch, making sure her mom had everything she needed until her death.
Mom was very appreciative of how they were able to provide for each of us and spoil their grandchildren. Even though she often worried about having enough money, she was amazed at how well we lived. Mom was not the most avid traveler. However, she did see much of the U.S. She also went on several cruises to experience the sites of Alaska, the U.K., Ireland, France and Holland.
We will all miss our Mom and our lives will not be the same with her passing.
A Memorial Services will be held with the immediate family at the Veterans Memorial, in Santa Fe, New Mexico in June.
No flowers please. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Association at https://act.alz.org would be appreciated and benefit others.
