Hubert Rex Holland, Jr., 67, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico on September 13, 2020.
He was born on October 12, 1952 in Evansville, Indiana as the first child of Dr. Hubert Rex Holland and Jane Cooper Holland. Rex grew up in Paducah, Kentucky as an all-American boy, even playing on the starting offensive line of the Paducah Tilghman High School football team. He then attended Vanderbilt University where he reveled in his days as a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon, and ultimately earned his MBA. In 1979, Rex and his young family moved from Nashville, Tennessee to Albuquerque. Years later, he began working as a CPA, crunching numbers and dreaming of the golf course. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, spending time with his family and friends, walking his dogs, collecting and listening to music, watching sports, attending church, serving his community, and scouting yard sales and thrift stores for good deals. Rex was a wonderful, intelligent, and loyal man with a kind heart, a goofy sense of humor, and the friendliest blue eyes you ever saw.
He is survived by his wife of thirteen years, Dian Holland; his children, Hanna Myers (Roby) and Katie Maurer (Lance); his grandchildren Benjamin McCabe, Bailey McCabe, Abbygayle Myers, Adelie Maurer, and Naomi Maurer; his siblings Dick Holland and Mary Leigh Stiff (John); Dian’s children Kelly Farias (Mike), Keith Johnson (Gloria), Kris Johnson (Shelby); Dian’s grandchildren Casey Farias, Shane Farias, Niko Johnson, Tabitha Johnson, Tage Johnson, and Taylor Johnson; and his nephews John and Lawson Stiff. Rex is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Hubert Rex Holland.
A service will be held at a later date. Should you choose, donations in Rex’s memory may be made to the Optimist Club of Albuquerque.
Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it’s breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you’ll get by
... If you’ll just smile
Lyrics to the Charlie Chaplin song “Smile” by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons
