Gordon Walhood Sr., age 96, passed away January 18, 2017. He was a resident of Albuquerque since 1959. He is survived by his second wife, Mary Helen, of 24 years; daughter, Ginger (Danny) Hedges and their three children, Daniel, Jamie Collins and Jennifer Forsthoff; son, Gordon Jr. (Donna) and their sons, Tae and Jonathan of Albuquerque, and son, David of Scottsdale. Mary Helen's children are Pat and Mike and their families, and Susan Scales and her family. He is also survived by a brother, Myron (Pat); and a sister, Georgene of Prescott. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ginny (Virginia) in 1990; and three brothers and their wives.
He was a Registered Professional Engineer in TX, TN, and NM. His career was with the US Army Corps of Engineers, serving in Albuquerque, NM, Ft. Worth, TX, Tullahoma, TN, and Norfolk, VA offices. He served on the design team for Cochiti Dam and ABQ's North and South Diversion Channels. He was a Fellow Member of ASCE, NSPE and was a past National Director of NSPE and past President of NMSPE. He was active in Cub and Boy Scouts and made three hikes into the Grand Canyon with the Boy Scouts. He was a member of Toastmasters for 37 years. He travelled the 50 states and much of Europe and enjoyed golf. He was an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church for 56 years.
Visitation with the family and friends will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Wyoming. His services will be held Monday, January 23, 2017, 10:00 a.m., at St. John's United Methodist Church, 2626 Arizona NE, with a reception to follow in the Family Life Center.
