Gary Lee Rieg was born on Sunday, November 23, 1941, in DuBois, PA and passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, December 1, 2022. Gary was preceded in death by his father, William Rieg, Sr; his mother, Mary Josephine Rieg; brothers, William Rieg, Jr. and Jeff Rieg; and sisters, Mary Josephine Rieg, II and Michelle (Mike) Walton; father-in-law, Remijio Quintana, Sr; mother-in-law, Eduvigen Varela Quintana; brothers-in-law, Remijio Quintana, Jr, Amador Quintana, Fred Mora, Gregorio Valencia, and Cipriano Rougement. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lydia Rieg; son, Ray Rieg; daughter, Jo and husband, Laurence Guiney; grandchildren, Nicholas Kollars and wife Courtney, Michael Rieg, Christian Guiney and wife Bailey, Emma Guiney; and great-grandchildren, Tristyn and Declan Kollars; brother, Keith Rieg and wife Martha; sister, Sandra Corle and husband Tom; sisters-in-law, Amy Rieg, Julia Valencia, Flora Mora, Erlinda Rougemont, Susan Quintana, Christine Padilla; brother-in-law, Charlie Quintana; his special niece, Tammy Adamson; and special nephews, Drew and Ed Rougemont, and Michael Rieg, many other nieces and nephews, and many more that loved him.
Gary served in the United States Air Force for 24 years and retired in New Mexico in 1985. He was a member of the American Legion and 40 et 8. He loved working in his work shed and fixing anything and everything. He was always there to lend a helping hand to family, neighbors, and friends with anything they may need. He loved traveling around the globe and spending retirement with Lydia. He will be greatly missed by all of us that were privileged to be a part of his life.
Memorial Services will be held in the coming days. Ennichement at Santa Fe National Cemetery will take place at a later date.
