Frederick J. "Jack" Head

Frederick J. (Jack) Head passed away October 10, 2016 in Albuquerque, NM at the age of 91. Jack was born in Alamosa, Colorado to Mabel and Heber Head on June 28, 1925.
He graduated from Alamosa High School in 1943 and entered the US Army. As a radio operator in the 41st Infantry Division Artillery, Jack served in the Southern Philippines in the New Guinea and Philippines campaigns. He rose to the rank of Technician 4th Grade and was a member of the occupation troops in Hiroshima, Japan following the Japanese surrender.
After his discharge, he returned to Alamosa and worked for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad. He married the love of his life, Opal Naomi McGee, in 1952. In 1953, Jack and Naomi moved to Clovis, NM and Jack went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad as a carman. He retired in 1986.
Jack enjoyed fishing - particularly trout fishing - in the streams of southern Colorado. He had a passion for growing flowers and raised many different iris and Amaryllis seedlings that he cross-bred himself.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Opal Naomi Head; his sister, Barbara Couture; two brothers, Clyde Gibson and Dale Gibson, and two grandchildren. He is survived by his three children, Sharon Hunter of Arvada, Colorado, Heber (Jack) Head of Alamogordo, NM and James Head of Rio Rancho, NM; his sister, Beverly Gibson; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held Friday, October 28, 2016 at 12:45 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87501.
