Duane Addison Benton, age 82, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2016. He is survived by his brother, Richard and wife, Marcella Benton; sons, Jay and Jerry, and wife, Connie; grandsons, Gilbert and wife, Darlyn, Joseph and fiancé, Victoria, and Joshua Benton; great-grandchildren, Gilbert, Faye, Darius, Aubrey, and Cooper; brother-in-law, Julian Yerbich; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Benton; and sister, Darlene Long.
Duane graduated from Highland High School in 1951. He served four years in the Marine Corps and earned the rank of Sergeant, and received the Korean Service Medal. Duane attended New Mexico State for two years. He worked several jobs before he was hired at Sandia Base, where he later retired. Duane traveled to Canada, Spain, and Hawaii after his retirement. He enjoyed biking, hiking, snowshoeing, and just being outdoors.
Services will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, 10:00 a.m. at FRENCH - University with Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer's Association, New Mexico Chapter, PO Box 21400, Albuquerque, 87154. The family would like to thank High Desert Hospice and Home Sweet Home Assisted Living Facility.
