Don Dwayne Moseley

June 16, 1945 — April 4, 2023

Don Dwayne Moseley was born June 16, 1945 in Albuquerque, NM, the son of Don B. and Ada V. Moseley. He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his husband, Barry Simon; daughter, Elyssa; daughter-in-law, Bibi Boynton; granddaughter, Raia; sister, Vivian Godby and her husband, Russell; nieces, Michelle and Sandra and their families; and many extended family and friends.

Family was always extremely important to Dwayne. Over the years he reminisced about his life and the good times he had with family and the importance of always being there for and with each other. Dwayne loved music from a very early age. Throughout his adult life he studied voice. In high school he was very active in the band and played trumpet. It was at this time he became interested in musical plays and opera. His first role was in West Side Story with the musical theater at Popejoy Hall. He went on as an adult to sing in a number of choruses, including the Gay Men's Chorus in LA and in Albuquerque, and in Quintessence. He also returned to theater in South Pacific and the operas William Tell (done completely in French) and Norma.

Dwayne loved to travel and was fluent in French and Spanish and took every opportunity to sing, hum, or speak one of these languages right up to the end, amazing nurses and staffers. He learned Spanish by living in New Mexico and French while living in France in a work/study program following graduation from college. Dwayne had a Master of Social Work degree and worked in various positions, including for the City of Los Angeles and United Health. After retiring, he kept his New Mexico license active. He was conscious of his health, making a healthy diet a priority throughout his life as well as exercise, particularly roller skating to disco music, swimming and skiing. He had a real talent for decorating and every year at Christmas had the most beautiful trees imaginable surrounded by colorfully wrapped packages. During the last several years, he loved to sit for hours on the back patio, looking at the results of his gardening as it changed from spring to summer to fall. Currently, it's coming into full bloom.

If you wish, a donation to your favorite organization in Dwayne's memory will be greatly appreciated. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, 10:00 a.m., at FRENCH - University.
