David Russel Waymire

July 30, 1943 — September 14, 2022

David Russel Waymire, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, died unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep on September 14, 2022.

He completed his PhD in Nuclear Physics at Brigham Young University and did post-doctoral work at the University of Stuttgart in Germany. He worked at Sandia National Laboratories from 1974 - 2015. He enjoyed his work and the many challenges that this provided him.

He was involved in many community organizations including opera board, scouting, and treasurer for many non-profit organizations.

He was a gifted wood craftsman and made beautiful carved chests and furniture for his family. These exceptional pieces of artwork are gifts of love for his family, and they are treasured by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

David loved being in nature, biking, and traveling. He traveled extensively throughout the world with his wife Kathleen, and with family and friends. He was passionate about all forms of music and especially enjoyed classical music, jazz, and opera. He enjoyed learning about art and cultures.

His strongest passions were for his family and extended family: His wife, Kathleen and their children, Gina and her husband Chris; David L. and his wife, Cara; Russel and his wife, Amy; and Laura and her husband Cody. He had eight grandchildren: Zoe Jerome, Isabel Jerome, Victoria Waymire, Miranda Waymire, Sam Waymire, Dylan Waymire, Tempest Odle, and Arwen Odle. A daughter, Kristine preceded him in death. All were deeply loved . David is survived by his loving family which includes his sisters Connie Whitney, Francis Evans, Jean Whipple, and his brother Bobby Waymire and his wife, Judi.

He followed Einstein's dictum: "Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning."

His kindness, dry sense of humor, wise counsel, and deep ability to love will be greatly missed.
