Darrell Wood Poe, 75, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016. He was born in a half-dugout in Whiteface, Texas, and over the years lived in Texas, Washington, California, Montana, Oregon, and in New Mexico for more than 40 years. He graduated from Aztec High School and got his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from New Mexico State University in 1965. Darrell was an entrepreneur at heart and his passion was farming. His many endeavors included farming, teaching Vocational Agriculture, welding, and taking care of his family and friends supported by delivering newspapers, specialty advertising, and fund raising for small organizations. Darrell was best known for his generous and compassionate spirit; spoiling his wife; sharing his time, energy, skills, and pickup truck with anyone in need; sharing jokes and humorous stories; and, greeting anyone and everyone he met whether in Walmart, on the hiking trail, at church and, in the end, at the hospital. His greatest passion was his family. He thoroughly enjoyed frequently bringing his family together, and he was very good at it! His interests included fishing, gardening, trains, traveling, cooking, and repairing anything broken.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Pauline Poe.

Darrell is survived by his wife Karla; son Paul Poe and wife Julie; daughter Shannon and husband Doug Hamm; and daughter of the heart, Karie Dumler; grandchildren Brianna Poe, Joshua Hamm, Caleb Hamm, Katherine Hamm; and grandson of the heart, Brenden Laughlin; sister Lenora Jo and husband Jim Johnson, brother Cecil Poe and wife Lois, sister Rebecca and husband Charles Myers, and their families. His great family includes numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is also survived by former wife, Bea Etta Harris.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, 10:00 a.m., Sandia Baptist Church, 9429 Constitution NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112. Private interment will take place at a later date.

In celebration of Darrell's generous spirit, cash or check donations can be made to the Family Ministries Camp & Mission's Scholarship Fund c/o Sandia Baptist Church (address above), in lieu of flowers. Condolences can be sent to Karla or posted to www.FrenchFunerals.com.

The family appreciates and thanks their friends, church family, and co-workers for all the prayers, encouragement, and thoughtful gifts extended during this time. The family particularly appreciates all the gentleness and care extended to Darrell by the medical staff, nurses and doctors at the Lovelace Medical Center on Martin Luther King Blvd., and especially those in the ICU and Gentiva Hospice. The family also thanks FRENCH - Lomas Location.
