Charlie William Chavez

March 4, 1928 — March 9, 2023

Charles W. Chavez passed peacefully from his home into life everlasting on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at the age of 95. He was born on Sunday, March 4, 1928 in Albuquerque, NM to Juan and Natividad (Montoya) Chavez. He was raised in Albuquerque with his sister Olivia and brother Ernest and graduated from Albuquerque High in 1946. He enlisted into the Army where he served under General MacArthur in the Philippines. Upon returning to the USA, Charlie graduated from UNM with a degree in Criminal Law. He worked for the Veterans Affairs from which he retired in 1986. He married the love of his life, Betty Spence on Monday, April 25, 1960 and they were happily married for 50 years. Together they raised three children; Carolyn Patricia Fleming, Stephen Randall Chavez (Barbara) and Charlene Chavez; five grandchildren called him grandpa, David (Margie), Steve (Jennifer), Kim (Ernest) and Valerie (Steve), and April. So many more great and great-great grandchildren loved him and were a part of his life. The most important in Charlie's life was his God. He found much peace and happiness knowing he was a child of God and knew his many blessings came from above. Charlie lived his life for his family, enjoying them each day. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, his loving wife, and youngest child. Charlie's final prayer was answered in that he has now joined them all, up in heaven. A Memorial Service will be held at FRENCH- Lomas on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. and the Honor Guard will provide Honors at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30pm.
