Carl Bert Snyder, 49, of Albuquerque departed to the heavens on Dec. 25, 2020, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Carl was born on January 14, 1971 in Saint Helens, Oregon, Yurok Tribe nilį́ (born into) and Bééshbichʼahii bi- (German) yáshchíín (born for). He was of Yurok Tribal descendent.
Carl was a brilliant soul. Whenever he met a new person, they would comment “I feel like I knew you for years, but we just met!” and he would reply, “Right Brother, you are my brother!” He was a rare one … he never allowed me to open my car door or any door, he never let me pay for things it was always “Women! put it away (my wallet)”. He went to my dad and my children and asked if he could marry me! When he asked me I said “Yes!” and that was after he gave my family a firework show and BBQ on 4 of July!! He planned it all by calling my extended family members to be there when he proposed! He changed my life and showed me a world of self-worthiness! He was very proud to share that he is a Yurok Tribal member as he announced it as “YOU-ROCK” in his baritone voice. He came from a legacy of traditional canoe maker and traditional basket weaver on his maternal grandparents.
Carl is survived by me, Glenda Shirley, his fiancée. His son Bert Snyder, - Fernley, Nevada; his daughters: Hannah Snyder - Reno Nevada and youngest daughter Holly Snyder - Hoopa, California, and my children: Nicole, Nick and Nichelle. His mom and dad, Bert & Vivian Snyder, Hoopa - California; and sisters: Annie Krupp & husband Legion of Fernley, Nevada and Vicky Verl, of Eureka, California. And many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Haines and Viola Moore, Hoopa, California and his paternal grandparents Carl and Nellie Snyder, Vernonia, Oregon.
A traditional Yurok funeral proceeding will take place in Hoopa, California.
A Celebration of Life is to be announced at a later date.
