Carl W. Dellinger

May 21, 1948 — July 13, 2019

Carl passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2019 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He kept his great sense of humor to the end.

Carl was born in Las Vegas, NM on May 21, 1948 to Maxine and Earl H. Dellinger, M.D. He attended Robertson High School and was named most valuable player for the baseball team his senior year. He graduated from ENMU with a BS in Psychology and Sociology and received his MA in Counseling and Guidance from UNM. Carl worked with many agencies during his career: Disability Adjudication, State Health Planning, Department of Hospitals and Institutions, First Offender’s Drug Program, Psychiatric Department at the State Penitentiary, American Hospital Association, Road Runner Food Bank, Young Father’s Program, Alegria Family Services, Hospice of NM and Heritage Hospice. He was a very social person and volunteered for many community activities including Special Olympics. He was an ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce, a member of several Civitan groups, a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, a Reiki Master Teacher and an amateur radio operator with call sign KF5DHO. He was a planner and a fixer. He loved his family and enjoyed camping, softball, skiing and going to the gym.

Carl is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Kathy; his daughter, Kristy Gustafson and husband, Karn; grandchildren, Ethan Gustafson and Delaney Gustafson; sisters-in-law, Candy Paco and Joan Thomson; stepsister, Julie Isabelle; niece, Michelle Hein and husband, E.J.; nephews, David Paco, Jim Thomson, Mark Thomson and wife, Cristina; numerous great-nieces and nephews, and many friends.

A Celebration of Life and reception will be held Saturday, July 27, 2019, 2:00 p.m., at FRENCH – Lomas.
