Bonifacio Louis Tafoya

Louis Tafoya, 77, went to be with the Lord on September 9, 2016. He was born on November 29, 1938 in Dixon, NM to his parents, Bonifacio and Felicita Roybal Tafoya.
Louis was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby "Jane" of 43 years on November 1, 2002. He is survived by two daughters, Elena Tafoya Trotter and husband, Abran of Albuquerque and Teresa Tafoya Lucero and husband, Joseph of Albuquerque; three sons, Tomas Tafoya of Painesville, OH, Jeffrey Tafoya and wife, Tillie of Roswell, NM and Andres Tafoya and wife, Mary Anne of Tempe, AZ; ten grandchildren, Michael Trotter of Albuquerque, Ruby, Ryan and David Lucero of Albuquerque, Maria and Sara Tafoya of Painesville, OH, Olivia Tafoya of Roswell, and Elizabeth, Luke and Joshua Tafoya of Tempe, AZ; four Great Grandchildren, Gage and Liam Tafoya Garcia of Roswell, NM, Wyatt Tafoya of Painesville, OH, Mikal Gray of Painesville, OH; two sisters, Helen Eva Tafoya of West Jordan, UT, Edna Evelyn Tafoya Yocum of Midvale, UT; brother, Carlos David Tafoya of Midvale, UT. Louis is preceded in death by his parents, Bonifacio Tafoya and Felicita Roybal Tafoya of Midvale, UT, and his brother, Horacio Rudy "Clarence" Tafoya of Draper, UT.
Louis was a Navy Chief Ordnanceman, with close to 40 years of U.S. Navy Service; more than 24 years on Active Duty, and 15 years of U.S. Navy Civilian Service in the field of Naval Aviation Conventional and Nuclear Ordnance and related Aircraft Weapons Systems and Naval Nuclear Safety community. He was a member of the following associations: American Legion Post 72 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6216, Naval Fleet Reserve Association Branches 63 and 200, Navy League of the United States-New Mexico Council, Naval-Military Fraternity, Naval Weapons Evaluation Facility-Naval Air Warfare Center Detachment Albuquerque (NWEF-NAWC DET ABQ), and Patrol Squadron One P-3 Orion Pioneers (VP-1 POPS).
He was also involved in community service, where he and his wife, Ruby "Jane", served as Co-Chairs of the Crime Prevention Committee in the Lavaland Vecinos (later-West Mesa) Neighborhood Association. He also served in the following organizations: Albuquerque Public School Bond Review Committee, Albuquerque Veteran & Military Affairs Advisory Board, Southwest Alliance of Neighborhood Associations Coalition, South Valley Coalition, Westside-South Valley Weed and Seed Strategy, Albuquerque Community Team, Community Action Team, West Central Community Development Group, and Albuquerque Partnership.
Louis served as a Deacon at Friendship Baptist Church, and was previously a member of Trinity Baptist Church. His devotion to God, family, friends and community marked his life. He is dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Visitation Services and Reception Dinner will be held Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. The Tafoya family invites all friends of Louie to join us in a celebration of our father's life. Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 16, 2016 at 11: 00 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, 1200 Atrisco Drive SW. Burial will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Pallbearers include Jeff Tafoya, Andres Tafoya, Abran Trotter, Joseph Lucero, Michael Trotter, and Ryan Lucero. Honorary pallbearers are Olivia Tafoya, Elizabeth Tafoya, Luke Tafoya, Joshua Tafoya, David Lucero and Maria Tafoya.
