Alvin (Al) Wiley Johnson, 81, of Albuquerque, NM passed away peacefully on January 26, 2022. His final days were spent surrounded by family he loved. Al was born on July 20, 1940 to Mary V. (Virgie) and Wiley Johnson in Albuquerque, NM. He was raised on his parents’ Four Hills ranch in Albuquerque with his two sisters where he enjoyed horseback riding, calf roping, and rodeo activities.
After graduating from Albuquerque’s Highland High School in 1958, Al attended UNM, received a Junior Accounting degree from Draughon’s Business College in Albuquerque, and attended Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA. Al worked as a professional photographer, owned donut shops, a Mexican restaurant, and barbecue restaurants where he became known in the East Mountains as "The Barbecue Man.”
Al had a passion for music, telling stories, photography, and especially his family. Al is survived by his wife Judy; children, Bruce, Shellie (Mark) Peercy, Dawn; grandchildren, Stephen, Justin, Nathan, Brendan, Aaron; great-granddaughter, Shayla; his sisters, Peggy (Jim) Schwebach, Virginia Rawlojohn, and Judy’s children Larry and Lani Hendrix. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 1st, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Services will be held Wednesday, February 2nd, 2022, 10:00 a.m. at FRENCH - Lomas.
