Allen Edwin Rasmussen

Allen Edwin Rasmussen, 89, joined the Lord on April 22, 2017. Allen was born in Platte, SD to Adolph Emmaus and Bertha Eleanor (Thomson) Rasmussen on June 29, 1927; he was raised on the family farm southwest of Platte and attended public school in Platte and later studied chemistry at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD where he met his future wife of 53 years, Ardelle Dolores Thompson. Drafted during the Korean Conflict, Allen served our country in the U.S. Army posted with the medical detachment for the 472nd EAB Unit in France. After military service, he returned to the farm where he farmed and ranched for more than 40 years until relocating to New Mexico. In Albuquerque he engaged in the real estate business and enjoyed retirement with Ardelle until her death in 2006. As an instrument pilot with a flight instructor-rating Allen was an active aviation enthusiast as well as a hunter, fisherman and world traveler. During his time in South Dakota he held numerous elected and appointed leadership positions including county commissioner of Charles Mix County, South Dakota and presidencies of the South Dakota Crop Improvement Association and the South Dakota Flying Farmers. He was a blessed member of Shepherd Lutheran Church of Albuquerque on Wyoming.

Ardelle, his parents and three sisters predeceased him. Allen is survived by his three children, James (Betty) of Wichita Falls, TX, Susan (Gregory) Moller of Longmont, CO, and Mary Ann (Michael) Cuneo of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many cousins.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3900 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with services to follow also at Shepherd Lutheran at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
