Abel Montoya

Abel Montoya, 84, born in Bernalillo, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2022, in Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, JoAnn; his daughters, Angel, Lisa, Denise, and husband Lawrence; his sons, Anthony, Stephen; his brother, Fidel and wife, Barbara; sister-in-law, Linda; brother-in-law, Jimmy; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Abel was preceded in death by his parents, Fidel and Manuela; his infant son, Paul; sisters, Mela, Helen, Connie; and his brothers, Frank and Dan.

Mr. Montoya served honorably in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959 as an Airman First Class. Abel was a Railroad Union officer, worked in roofing, janitorial services, and as a security guard. He owned his own security and funeral escort service for 40 years. He worked with the Bernalillo County Sheriffs and the Valencia County Sheriff’s departments. He was an outdoorsman and took delight in fishing, hunting, camping, and occasionally the casino. He was able to travel and cruise to Europe, London, Italy, France, Alaska, and also enjoyed land tours by motor coach.

Mr. Montoya requested cremation and private services.
