Zona Faye (Betty) Cottrill

Age 86, long-time resident died Friday, August 23, 2013 from natural causes. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Richard M. (Dick) Cottrill; children Linda Cottrill Hawkins & husband, James L. Hawkins (Scottsdale, AZ); Richard L. Cottrill & wife, Nancy Cottrill (Albuquerque, NM); Betty Cottrill Osoff-Hannagan & husband, Dan Hannagan (Rio Rancho, NM); god-daughter, Debbie Denson (Albuquerque, NM); grandchildren Sheila Griffin, Paul & Brian Hawkins, Michael Herring & Kari Ryder; great-grandchildren Alexander & Mary Jane Hawkins, Averie & Kiley Herring. She was preceded in death by her parents, Loyal & Alta Betty of Albuquerque, NM. Zona was born January 24, 1927 on a farm in Moore County, near Dumas, Texas. She moved with her parents to Albuquerque in 1940 where she met Richard at the opening year of Jefferson Junior High. A graduate of Albuquerque High School, she attended UNM majoring in piano. She taught music at Danfesler's School of Music for a period of time after marriage. She was a member of Albuquerque Junior League, an avid gardener, member of Jobs Daughters, & served as an adult leader & music director for Jobs Daughters. After raising her children, she spent the last seven years as Grandma Zona, a volunteer grandmother at Monte Vista and Arroyo Del Oso elementary schools, touching the lives of many children. She was a loving wife of 65 years, mother, daughter, grandmother and music teacher. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the FRENCH - University on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
