William R. Geck went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.
William was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on July 6, 1930, to William and Emma Geck. The family moved to Albuquerque, NM, where he graduated from Albuquerque High School.
During those years Bill worked as a Ranch Hand at the Johnson’s Ranch (now Four Hills). After graduating high school, he served his Country in the US Army during the Korean War. He married his wonderful wife, Beverly Geck, and the two of them went to study at the Hollywood Art Center College in Los Angeles, CA. William graduated with a degree in Photography. He was a Member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church. He worked at Liddell then at Sandia National Laboratories for 30 years as a Still Photographer and Cinematographer.
After retirement he started his second career, volunteering. He served The Albuquerque Visitors Bureau, now Visit Albuquerque, for over 30 years. Every Tuesday in Old Town Bill did what he loved most, meeting people and telling them about our wonderful city and state. He also volunteered with the Sandia Ranger District doing trail maintenance, cutting down trees that fell across trails, and hiking a couple of times a week.
One of his favorite activities was working the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta every year, again, meeting and talking to people. He loved all and all loved him. Above all else, faith and family were his priorities. Sunday dinners, birthday parties, BBQ’s, and the Island of Kauai were some of the many things he shared with his family. Our family trips to Kauai brought us together as he made the island our second home. He enjoyed sharing the sights and sounds of the Island, hiking, swimming, eating wonderful foods, sunrises and sunsets, all surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife of over 66 years, Beverly Geck; daughter, Debra Geck Moss (Dave) of Albuquerque; son, William Geck (Mary) of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Krista Moss Sharpe (Eason) of Piedmont, South Carolina, Kayla Moss Skartwed, (Daniel) of Albuquerque, Michael Moss (Caroline) of Corpus Christi, Texas, Emma Geck Drake (Jordan) of Albuquerque, and William Geck of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Levi Drake, Clara Sharpe, David James Skartwed, and Corbin Drake.
Bill is also survived by extended family members, The Crowd, and many, many friends. His family and friends will miss this vibrant 90-year young man, but we know we will see him again as he is singing…. “Home, Home on the Range”.
