Because she placed her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and Him alone, Muriel went to be with her Lord on February 26, 2013. Muriel was born in Winthrop, Arkansas on January 11, 1913 to Della and Charley Smith. She had two brothers, Clifton and Charles (Happy) Smith. She married Jesse Winn on August 6, 1939. They have one daughter, Harriet Byrd who lives in Albuquerque. Muriel has three grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Muriel was a stay at home wife and mother until 1956 when she began attending Southeastern State college in Durant, Oklahoma. She received her degree in Elementary Education in 1960 and moved with her family to Gallup, New Mexico where she taught second grade. In 1962 she moved to Crownpoint, New Mexico. She and Jesse lived there until they retired. While living in Crownpoint, she taught second grade at Crownpoint Elementary School. Her husband was a Soil Conservationist with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. They retired in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Muriel enjoyed many years of retirement spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her church and attended Bible Study on Sunday's and Wednesday. For many years she volunteered weekly feeding the homeless at Noonday Ministries. She lived with her daughter and son-in-law and is loved by all who knew her. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Hoffmantown Church, 8888 Harper Dr. NE, following with a private family committal at Sunset Memorial Park.
