William "Jerry" Evans, 77, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 16, 2019. He was born on August 14, 1941 in Elmore County, AL, to W.O. and Hellon Evans. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rebecca (Becky); children, Nick and Stephanie Evans of Albuquerque and Marquita and Brian Dickinson of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Brandon and Mackenzie Dickinson of Nashville, TN, Taylor and Ashlynn Dickinson of Norman, OK, Jessica Dickinson of Oklahoma City, OK, Christopher and Maria Evans of Midlothian, VA, Timothy Evans of Henrico, VA, Allison Evans of Macon, GA and Jonathan Evans of Destin, FL; great grandchildren, Seraphina of Midlothian, VA, Claire, Knox and Adaleigh of Nashville, TN; brothers, Roger and Diane Evans of Wilsonville, AL and Jimmy Evans of Foley, AL; sister, Judy and Sonny Crittenden of Foley, AL; and sister-in-law, Sharon Quiroga of Albuquerque; two nephews and a niece. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jerry graduated from Sidney Lanier High School then attended Auburn University, where he met Becky and served in the police department, as a motorcycle officer. He was a graduate of Luther Rice Seminary and was ordained at Sandia Baptist Church in 1982. Jerry excelled in the business world before surrendering to the ministry where he served as a pastor, teacher, discipler, and associate pastor. His passion was sharing his faith and seeing individuals come to faith in Jesus. He served numerous churches in New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma. Jerry mentored many younger pastors and laymen during these years.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather as well as a devoted friend and will be dearly missed. Friends may visit Friday, January 18, 2019, 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at FRENCH – Lomas. A Memorial Celebration of his Life will be Saturday, January 19, 2019, 2:00 p.m. at Sandia Baptist Church, 9429 Constitution Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, The Shriners Hospital, or the charity of your choice.
