William "Bill" A. Starkovich Sr., age 94, passed away on May 24, 2018. Bill was born in Dawson, NM on March 26, 1924. He grew up in the coal mining camps in Dawson and Gardiner, New Mexico. Bill enlisted into the Army Air Force in 1942. He fought in the Pacific Theater, stationed in Guam with the 69th Service Group of the 305th Engineer Squadron. He graduated from New Mexico State with a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1951. He went on to marry Ellen Berry on August 1, 1953 and together they raised 2 daughters and 2 sons. Bill retired in 1988 as the director of Safety for Standard Oil of Ohio, and then returned to his beloved New Mexico and settled in Edgewood. Dad was a devout Catholic and served as a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1949. He was a great and humble man who would help anyone in need. He was a loving husband to his wife of 58 years, Ellen, who preceded him in death in 2011. He was a loving father to his children; Danise Burke (John), Carla Fedor (Jim), Bill Starkovich (Kim), Matt Starkovich (Diane), and his infant son, John who also preceded him in death. Bill was also a loving grandfather to nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Child Catholic Church, 19 Camino del Santo Nino Tijeras, NM 87059, with visitation to begin at 6:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., also at Holy Child Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Moriarty.
