William Loyd "Bill" Slimp, beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend passed away on Monday, November 16, 2015 surrounded by family.
Billy was born on May 19, 1955 to Robert J. and Dorothy Slimp in Columbus, Nebraska. Billy graduated from St. Pius X High School in 1973. He was a gifted athlete and most notably a proud member of the basketball team that made it to the state finals under Coach Ron Tybor. For the last 18 years he worked at GCC Rio Grande. His friends from the plant included Pete Allan, Craig Bell and Zach Graham.
Known for his wit and compassionate spirit, Billy lived selflessly for his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Shena Devinney and his father. Survivors include his beloved daughter, Jolene; mother, Dorothy, son-in-law, Jarrod Devinney; grandson, Jacob; siblings, R. James Slimp and wife Marylinn, Mark Slimp and wife Toni, Joni Bakken and husband Bob, Leslie Monette and husband Lewis, Sam Slimp and wife Patty Galindo, and many nieces and nephews.
A lover of all sports, he especially enjoyed watching football and taking trips to Las Vegas. Billy lived "the good life."
Rosary will be recited Thursday, November 19, 2015, 7:00 p.m., at FRENCH - Lomas. Friends may visit beginning at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, November 20, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church, 2621 Vermont NE. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
