William Shea

"Bill" was born October 13, 1925 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was raised by parents, Thomas and Julia Shea in Salina, Kansas. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; his parents; his brother, Thomas Jr.; and his son, John. He graduated with honors at Sacred Heart High School in Salina, KS in 1943. Shortly afterwards was called into the Navy where he was in the submarine service in the Pacific Theater and was aboard the POGY SS266. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1950 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and while in school, Bill joined a Naval Air Squadron VF884 as a "weekend warrior." The Squadron consisted of carrier based F4U Corsairs and was activated the first day the President authorized it. His squadron was attached to the carrier USS Boxer and patrolled off the Korean coast. After the war he joined Wilson and Co. Architects and Engineers in Salina, KS and worked there for 15 years. Then for the next 25 years he worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was stationed in Albuquerque, NM, Omaha, NE, Frankfurt, Germany and Dallas, TX. In 1953 Bill married Nancy A. Fuller in Salina, KS. Their family grew to three boys and three girls. Bill is survived by his daughters, Michelle and husband, John Melvin , Julia and husband, John Harlan, Kimberly and husband, Chuck Willis; sons, Kevin Shea, Mark Shea and his wife, Lynn; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and many other family and friends. After 55 years of marriage, Nancy died August 17, 2008 and left Bill with many fond memories of their life together including the joys and problems of raising a family, the cruises to foreign places, the plays and operas, the European tour and the get-togethers with friends. Now they are together again. A Memorial Rosary will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2013, 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, May 22, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at John XXIII Catholic Community Church, 4831 Tramway Ridge Dr. NE. Private Ennichment will be at Sunset Memorial Park.
