William Richardson, age 78, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed from this life on Friday, January 28, 2022. He was born on May 13, 1943, in Telluride, Colorado, to Frank and Alice Richardson. Bill grew up in Ouray, Colorado and graduated from high school there in 1962. He married Gerry Dean Dobbs on December 1, 1967. He is survived by his spouse of 54 years and daughters, Shannon Maez (Marshall) and Kristen Chilcoat (Kristoffer); and grandchildren, Megan Hudson (Brent), Brice Richardson, Skyla Wilke and Michelle Richardson; and great-grandchildren, Damian Cano, Bentley, Bailey, Brynley and Sebastian Hudson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia Smith of Naturita, Colorado. He is also survived by his three brothers, Dick, John and Robin Richardson (Kathy) and his sister, Joy Richardson. His nieces and nephews are: Debra Daley (Philip) of Ormond Beach, Florida, Dean Brickhouse (Melissa) of Superior, Montana and Donna Lee Yaseen of Durango, Colorado; Katrinka Richardson; Heather Tiedtke (Gary), Kim Bartmass (Dan) and Nikki Halliday; Jason Richardson (Allyson Ann), Allison Louise Richardson, Michael Richardson and Brooke Davison, all of Odessa, Texas, Stephen Squires and Katie Squires of Nucla, Colorado and many great-nieces and nephews, too many to name, and many dear friends, neighbors and colleagues.
William served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1968 and during that time was stationed in Japan for two years. He ended his military career at Fort Carson, Colorado as a Staff Sergeant. After the service, he attended Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado and earned his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. His civilian career as a law enforcement officer of over 30 years included serving as Undersheriff of Montezuma County, Colorado, and he retired from the New Mexico Attorney General's Office after 16 years of service as a Special Agent which included service on the FBI's Violent Fugitive's Task Force for two years. Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing in his beloved Colorado mountains with friends and family for many years, and his hobbies in later years included woodworking and photography.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at FRENCH - Westside. A viewing is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. prior to the service.
