William J.D. O'Mara

William J.D. O’Mara, 87, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 2, 2018 after a lengthy battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

He was born on July 25, 1931 in Omaha and adopted by his loving parents, William H. and Emma S. O’Mara within his first year. Bill grew up in Fullerton, NE and often worked in the O’Mara Hatchery as well as spending summers helping on the family farm in Boelus. After graduating from Fullerton High School, Bill proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1949-1951 including service with Suicide Charley Company, 1st Battalion 7th Marines in Korea.

After his return from Korea, Bill moved back to Fullerton for a short time before going to New York City where he met his wife Pat. They moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1962 where they have remained ever since.

Bill spent over 50 years in New Mexico and more than 30 of those as a Sales Rep for WestLaw. Though he raised his family in New Mexico, his heart was always in Fullerton, where he often spoke of the joys of growing up in a small town community. He returned regularly for the Fullerton High reunions and to check on the family farm. He loved to travel, rejoiced in his family and was an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Bill was an active member of the Marine Corps League, serving as Commandant for 5 years.  He was also a member of the VFW, the American Legion and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.

He is preceded in death by his parents William and Emma as well as his sister, Margaret of Fullerton, NE.

Bill is survived by his loving wife Pat, of 57 years, their three children, sons Sean (Kelly) Terry (Sheri Pearson) and daughter Amy Borkstrom (Jeff) all of Albuquerque; as well as his beloved grandchildren Sean, Amanda, Keara Porter, Emma Borkstrom, Meagan Weisz, Tyler Weisz, Kerrie McGurin and great grandchildren Brody Weisz, Harper and Haylee McGurin.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, Marine Corps Heritage Foundation or the charity of your choice.

Rosary, with a celebration of life following, will be recited Monday, September 10, 2018, 6:00 p.m., at FRENCH – Wyoming. Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, September 11, 2018, 8:30 a.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish, 2621 Vermont St. NE. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7999 Wyoming Blvd NE, at 10:00 a.m.
