Son, Husband, Brother, Drummer.
William (Bill) Keith Nelson, a man of extraordinary talent and steadfast determination, passed away on December 20, 2024, at the age of 59. Born on May 21, 1965, in Phoenix, Arizona, Bill brought joy and inspiration to those who knew him through his humor, creativity, and dedication.
From an early age, Bill displayed a sharp wit and a natural gift for mimicry that could brighten any room. His love for music began with jazz drumming lessons during his youth and blossomed as he played in his high school marching band. This passion for rhythm stayed with him throughout his life as he continued to take drum lessons and to drum with multiple bands in Albuquerque, finding joy and connection through music.
In 1991, he married the love of his life, Janet, whom he still referred to over the years as his "bride". Together they shared their many interests of music, camping, taking photos and traveling to scenic destinations in NM and Colorado where he and his wife would camp and fish, and more recently (after his 2023 retirement), they enjoyed using their RV. They also were able to travel overseas to Ireland and France as well as many trips to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. A trip to Alaska in 2024 by cruise ship was a special delight. Another tireless activity entailed his fondness of his various cats over the years.
Bill's professional journey was marked by versatility and excellence. Starting with humble beginnings working at a bowling alley and as a busboy, he quickly made a name for himself in Albuquerque's upscale restaurant scene during his twenties. Patrons were often impressed by his phenomenal memory and meticulous attention to detail. These qualities later propelled him into a successful career in real estate with RE/MAX. During the mid-2000s, Bill's exceptional work ethic earned him the distinction of being New Mexico's #1 RE/MAX residential agent for three years-a testament to his dedication and skill with clients, especially with those returning to use him for multiple deals over the years.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bill was deeply committed to helping others. Having achieved sobriety over three decades ago, he spent 33 years offering support and encouragement to those striving to overcome alcohol addiction-a role he embraced with compassion and understanding. He also found immense joy in cooking for close friends and family, creating meals that brought people together and strengthened bonds around the dinner table.
Bill was known for his devotion to his loving wife Janet Renn-Nelson who survives him. Also surviving are his mother Crystal Nelson-Mixdorf, his father Larry (Shelaine) Nelson and his brothers Tom Nelson and Ken (Amy) Nelson.
Bill's legacy of kindness, humor, perseverance, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his loss. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, 2:00 p.m. at FRENCH-Lomas. Services will be live streamed below for those who are not able to attend.
