William E. Lyon

William “Bill” Lyon, beloved husband, father and brother passed away on September 5, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. Bill was born on September 23, 1947 in Erie, PA and was preceded in death by his parents, Harland Lyon and Mary Vito. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Ramona Lyon; his children, Natalie (Tim) VanKanegan, Zariah (Carlos) Duran, Theresa (Rene) Flores, Gregory Martinez, Patrick Martinez and Julie Gonzalez. He is survived by his identical twin brother, Robert (Pamela) Lyon; brothers, Thomas (Carole) Lyon, Richard (Julie) Lyon, Eugene (Louella) Vito; one sister, Grace (Terry) Yasurek; his beloved grandchildren, Mario Duran, Gavin VanKanegan, Neeko Martinez, Gerardo Hernandez, Taylor Flores and the twins, Aaliyah and Sasha Duran.
Bill served his country during the Vietnam War. He was one of the last draftees and was very proud of the fact that he served his country and was extremely protective of the United States Flag and what it represented.
Bill retired from Cuba Independent School District where he was a high school math teacher and football coach during his tenure there. He taught and coached football in Kansas and Iowa. He enjoyed the outdoors, exercising and dancing with his wife. He also enjoyed playing bridge with his bridge club. Bill will be greatly missed…he is flying with the angels.
Pallbearers will be Tim VanKanegan, Gregory Martinez, Patrick Martinez, Carlos Duran, Rene Flores and Alex Lovato.
A Rosary will be held Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114. A Mass will be held Friday, September 15, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church. A Graveside service will be held at a later date at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
