William Howard (Bill) Hughes, 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1945, died November 27, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Beverly Aicher Hughes; daughter Janet Rupley, husband John, and grandchildren Jason (Brynn), Casey (Dawn), and Joshua, Albuquerque, NM; son Robert (Bob) Hughes, wife Lindy, and grandchildren Trent (Lacey), Blake, Blair, Jena and Grant, Tualatin, OR; daughter-in-law Kathy Hartman and grandson Nathan;and two great-grandchildren, Myah and Jacob. He is also survived by two brothers, Dr. Lloyd Hughes, Cedar Crest, NM, and Maurice (Johnny) Hughes and wife, Jettie; and sister, Ruth Cook, all of Albuquerque; brother-in-law Frank Aicher, Lincoln City, OR; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; son David ; brothers Leon, Jack and Walter; sisters Gertrude, Lorine, and Juanita. Bill was born in 1928 in Moriarty, NM, the ninth of ten children, to Walter M. and Effie L. Hughes. Bill graduated with a class of seven from Moriarty High School in 1945 and from the University of New Mexico in 1950, with a degree in Business Administration. While at UNM he was a charter member of Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity and was a life member. Shortly after graduation from UNM Bill got the call and went in to the Army during the Korean conflict. After basic training at Ft. Ord, CA, he was transferred to Ft. Belvoir, VA, where he spent the remainder of his time serving in the Engineer School. After getting out of the service, Bill was an auditor until he went to work for ACF Industries, Finance Division, and he was again sent back East to New York City and then Washington, D.C. Bill later transferred back to Albuquerque in 1959 and continued working for ACF until 1968 when General Electric Co. bought the plant. He worked in the Finance organization of GE until retirement December 1990. After retirement, Bill and Beverly spent many wonderful years traveling throughout the U.S. in their RV. They also traveled extensively outside the U.S. including over 60 countries and all seven continents. He was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and served in numerous capacities and ministries, including starting the Endowment Funds at St. Paul's. Bill enjoyed many hobbies, including music, playing the piano, organ, accordion and keyboard; cake decorating, jewelry making, travel and fishing. His greatest loves were his family, church, music, travel and animals. Visitation will be held from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, December 8, 2014 at FRENCH - Lomas. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 13, 2014 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 9500 Constitution NE, Albuquerque, NM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Bill and Beverly Hughes Shared Ministries Endowment at St. Paul's UMC. French Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
