William V. Hereford went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on November 4, 2015. He loved his family. He is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Butler Hereford of Decatur, GA, Lawrence Perry Hereford and his wife Mary, of Loveland, CO, John William Hereford and Jody of Boulder, CO and James McCraken Hereford and his wife Deborah, of Murray, KY. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, William Matthew Hereford, Daniel Hereford, Lawrence Mason Hereford, Timothy Hereford, Josiah Hereford, Kathryn Hereford, William Hereford, Marianna Hereford; and five great grandchildren, Caroline, Margaret, Eve, Grayson and Addison Hereford. He is also survived by his brother, Bledsoe Hereford of Huntsville, AL; and many loved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeannette Hurt Hereford; and his second wife, Carolyn Turner Hereford; by his parents, Josiah McCracken Hereford and Lucy Emma Butler Hereford; and his brothers, Lawrence, Roy, Joe, James, Robert, Charles, Albert Douglas, Tom and Clark; and his sisters, Charlotte Jones, Laura Mae Wilbourn, and Rachel Oden.
Born in Gurley, AL, Bill moved to Albuquerque, NM at age 14 for health reasons and lived there as a longtime resident. He was a charter member and Deacon at Hoffmantown Baptist Church. He got his Master of Science in Civil Engineering from UNM where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and was listed in the Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities and Who's Who in New Mexico. He was a registered Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor in New Mexico and member of the National Society of Professional Engineers. In 1985 he retired as a supervisor at Sandia National Laboratory after 38 years of dedication.
Mr. Hereford served as the vice-chairman of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Flood Control Authority who is credited with spearheading the creation of the bike trail along the arroyo from UNM to Sandia High School. He was appointed to the Board of the Middle Rio Grande Council of Government where he served on the Urban Transportation and Policy Planning Board. He was also on the advisory board of University of New Mexico Cancer Research and Treatment Center. He enjoyed sports including golf, tennis, softball and basketball.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at FRENCH - University.
