William Edward George

William (Bill) Edward George, 93 of Albuquerque, formerly of White Rock NM, and Pittsburgh PA, passed from this life on Saturday, May 1, 2021. A lifelong Roman Catholic, Bill was an active member of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish in Paradise Hills, and a former member of Immaculate Heart of Parish in Los Alamos, and St. Germaine parish in Bethel Park PA. Bill was born in Johnstown PA, to Gordon and Verda (Cullen), and was a descendant of Albright George, who originally settled nearby in the years before the War of Independence. Bill was raised in the Moxham borough of Johnstown, attended Bishop McCort high school, and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. Bill was subsequently employed at the Calgon Corporation, Westinghouse Electric, and most recently, at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Bill was particularly proud of his work at Westinghouse Electric with the Naval nuclear reactor program, and enthusiastically recounted his many experiences supporting the program to friends, relatives, and unwary new acquaintances. Bill enjoyed golfing throughout his life and appreciated the occasional margarita. A life member of the Knights of Columbus and American Chemical Society, Bill was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Leona (Stepanek); parents, Gordon and Verda; and his brother, Charles. He is survived by his son, Tim (Linda); grandchildren, Tim (Margaret) and Melanie Berisha (Genc); sister, Rita Helen Ference, PhD, RN; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends will be received at FRENCH - Westside, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2021. Bill's life will be celebrated in a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15 a.m., Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at St. Jude Thaddeus Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114. Interment will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Albuquerque. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to the St. Jude Thaddeus building fund, or the Michael J. Fox foundation.
