William Francis Gamberale

William Francis Gamberale, the son of William A. and Rose Gamberale, was born on May 5, 1931, in Youngstown, Ohio. He went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at the age of 88 in the presence of his wife and children.

Bill spent his youth in Pittsburgh, PA. While attending high school, he was a top football player and a part-time golf caddy. He graduated from David B. Oliver High School in 1951. He and his parents moved to Albuquerque in July 1951. Bill was hired that same year as a drafting trainee by Sandia National Laboratories. He was granted a military leave of absence from 1952-1954 to serve in the US Army, stationed in Tokyo, Japan, as part of the medical corps. Upon being honorably discharged, he returned to Sandia where he had a long and satisfying career, including being promoted to supervisor. Bill retired from Sandia in May 1989 after 38½ years of service.Bill was a devout Catholic, and a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather. Special to him was the annual cooking day with his Italian family, where there was always good food, and plenty of humorous banter; and the many holiday cookouts where he was the grill-master, rain or shine. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, die-hard UNM Lobo and Pittsburgh Steeler fan. Bill and his wife, Gloria, also enjoyed the beautiful friendships of their group of “mall walkers.”

Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Gloria; daughter, Alicia Cloer; son, Stephen; daughter-in-law, Dawn; and grandchildren, Mia and Matthew Gamberale, of Escondido, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill was preceded in death by his father, William; mother, Rose; step-father, Ellsworth Constance; sister, Marietta Snyder, and son-in-law, Bryon Cloer.

Mass will be celebrated  Saturday, November 30, 2019, 10:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m., both at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5311 Phoenix Ave. NE.  Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
