William A. "Bill" Doyle
April 1, 1927 — April 17, 2016
William A. (Bill) Doyle, 89, beloved Father, and former Albuquerque resident - was called to his eternal resting place while living in Scottsdale, AZ on April 17, 2016. He was born in Pequaming, MI on April 01, 1927. Bill attended Pequaming High School in 1942, and moved to Marquette, MI to attend Graveraet High School from 1943-1945, where he was a star basketball and football athlete. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, and served honorably as a Pharmacist Mate (Hospital Corpsman) Third Class. When World War II ended, Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal asked PhM3c Doyle to stay on an extra year to help take care of returning Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines.
Upon discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1946, Bill attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he played varsity basketball. He was also a member of the The University of Michigan Official Alumni Letterwinners M Club. After obtaining his BS in Physical Education in 1951, Bill worked for several companies, including Argus Camera. While working at Argus, he met and married Suzanne (Sue) Wilson in 1955.
Bill and Sue moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1956, when Bill joined Sandia National Laboratories, where he worked in Personnel and Security Administration. Bill retired from Sandia Labs in 1985. They were active members of Tanoan Country Club from 1979-2014, and enjoyed playing golf and tennis with many of their friends and family. Of all of his travels, he particularly enjoyed trips to Norway, Italy, Alaska, and Hawaii. Bill continued to closely follow his beloved Michigan Wolverines throughout his life. In his later years he also became an avid New England Patriot and Arizona Diamondback fan.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Sue, and son-in-law David Ellison. He is survived by his children: Eileen Ellison of Pawnee, OK; Ted Doyle and wife Stacey of Austin, TX; CDR Patrick Doyle, USN (Ret) and wife Diana of Scottsdale, AZ; and Janice Griego and husband Rick of Santa Fe, NM; grandchildren: LT Ryan Ellison, USN and wife Traci of Naples, Italy; LT Ashley Ellison, USN of Chesapeake, VA; and Tess Doyle of Austin, TX; and two great grandchildren, Audrey and newborn David Ellison.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016, 10:00 a.m., at Prince of Peace Catholic Community, 12500 Carmel Ave. NE, Albuquerque, NM, 87122. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
