William Andrew Jacob Chalverus
January 21, 1951 — January 18, 2024
William “Bill” Andrew Jacob Chalverus, 72, passed away suddenly on January 18th, 2024, at the
Hospital Militar in Managua, Nicaragua. His hand was held tightly by his beloved wife, Karen
through the whole ordeal. Karen, his three daughters Helena, Claire, and Emma and his brother
Peter were all surrounding him as he passed. He leaves behind a true legacy of tenderness,
love, kindness, and dedication that will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of
knowing him.
Bill was born on January 21st, 1951, in Princeton, New Jersey to Yolanda and William
Chalverus. Bill was a notable athlete at Princeton Day school and graduated in 1969 with the
“Golden P”; the best athlete in school. He graduated from the Texas Heart Institute in 1983 and
in 1986 accepted an excellent job offer at Presbyterian Hospital in the operating room; running
the heart and lung machine during open-heart surgery. He loved his job, he really felt like he
had found his calling. It was there that he met his future wife, Karen Veach in 1987. Bill and
Karen were married and blended their family on May 20th, 1989. They had three daughters:
Helena, Claire, and Emma. Bill loved his role as a father to three girls.
In 2005 Bill and three other equal partners formed Mesa Blood Perfusion and contracted their
services to the Heart Hospital and the VA. In 2015 the business was sold and Bill retired in
2017. After retirement, while pursuing many hobbies like fishing, gardening, and travel, Bill
became a very devout Christian. His last days on earth were spent serving others in Nicaragua
alongside his beloved wife, Karen, and a team of people from their church.
Bill was known for his willingness to help others, and his steadfast, dedicated, and fun-loving
nature. He was full of life, youthful energy, curiosity, and made friends everywhere he went. He
will be greatly missed here on earth but is continuing his legacy in Heaven.
A service for Bill will be held at the Vertical Church Albuquerque at the Taylor Ranch location on
July 6th, 2024, at 10 am. There will be a celebration of his life afterwards at Altura Park at 4pm
with music, food, and games. All are invited to attend.
A memorial soccer field will be built in Bill’s name in Chinandega, Nicaragua. If you wish to
