William W. Burns

d. September 6, 2014

William Walter Burns, 86, a fifty-seven year resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, peacefully passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2014. He was born on a small farm in Girard, IL on June 9, 1928, the only child of Ivan and Maude Burns from Springfield, IL. He met and married Melda Hieronymus of Nokomis, IL; and they recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. He was in the Army during the Korean war and served as a Second Lieutenant in the Signal Corps. After graduating from Devry Technical Institute in Chicago, he was recruited to take a position at Sandia National Laboratories. He moved with his wife to Albuquerque, NM in 1957 and worked as an Electronic Technician at Sandia for over 37 years. He worked primarily in Field Test which he enjoyed very much. He was a member of the American Legion Post 49 and a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church since 1959. William loved fishing the rivers of New Mexico, picnicking at Battleship Rock in the Jemez Mountains, playing ball with his two favorite dogs, Skywalker and Hana, and spending time with his family and close friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Melda Burns; his devoted three children Eric Burns, Cynthia Burns, Debra Burns and her husband, David Kaselak; and two adored grandchildren Quentin Kaselak and Campbell Kaselak. He was loved by his family and would always emulate selflessness in everything he did. He believed in family above all else. A small service at the chapel will be held at FRENCH - Lomas on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Russ Sorensen officiating. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7999 Wyoming Blvd.
