Willard Roy Randall

August 2, 1926 — August 8, 2020

Willard Roy Randall lived a full life of 94 years on this earth, before our Lord called him home. He passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2020. He passed comfortably, in the home built by his own hands. He was surrounded by his children at his passing. He at last was rejoined with Margie, his wife of 54 years before she went to be with our Lord on Christmas day as a new century dawned in 2000. Willard’s passing will also complete the circle of his 8 brothers and sisters gone on before him. Willard is survived by his two children, Randy Randall and wife Roberta, of Bloomfield, N.M. and Rhonda Kent and husband Kevin of Albuquerque, N.M. From those two children, came a few additions to the family. Willard proudly had five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

As a young man Willard joined the United States Navy in April of 1944, where he served as a Gunners Mate, with the rank of Seaman First Class, until he was honorably discharged in May of 1946. He served on the U.S.S. Algol, a troop and equipment landing craft, so vital to the United States victory of WWII. While serving in the Navy, Willard sailed the globe, stopping at ports in Japan, the Phillipines and even Hawaii. After coming home from the Navy, he met a pretty little package of dynamite named Margie. By December of 1946 they were married by a J.P. in Bernalillo, N.M. Their honeymoon consisted of going to their first home. A re-furbished, two room chicken coop in his sister’s back yard. From there, he started building the house that would be the home he lived in for the rest of his life. In 1955, he hired on as a custodian at Sandia Labs. Soon he became a millwright and kept that job for 34 years until he retired in 1989. Willard made a lot of lifelong friends while working at the Base, though they all knew him as Randy. Even after he retired, he was constantly bumping into friends from work.

Willard and Margie were faithful members of Blake Road Baptist Church for over 20 years. During that time, he was ordained a deacon of the church. His main focus was visitation. For many years he served on the visitation team, going to check on and offer assistance to church visitors as well as members, both young and old. He was especially loved by the children at church. He loved to watch their faces light up with joy upon his arrival each Sunday morning, for they knew they could count on him to have candy in his suit coat pocket for them. He also volunteered untold hours of work to help maintain the church building and property. He was a man that loved his Lord, his family and his church family.
