Wiley Thomas "Tom" Banes
January 11, 1942 — December 19, 2015
Tom, age 73, loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to many, passed away on December 19, 2015. He was born on January 11, 1942 in Albuquerque, NM to Wiley and Elsie Banes.
Tom was an Albuquerque native, respected business owner and an avid outdoorsman. He had a passion for auto racing, boating, fly fishing and all things outdoors. Hearing the "roar" of the engines at Nascar events and anchoring his boat at Conchas Lake with family and friends gave Tom his peace. His high school years were spent in Kansas, at St. John's Military School, where he thrived as an athlete and leader of his Crack Squad. His summer years as a youth were spent working at Teelawuket Guest Ranch in Southern Colorado, where fly fishing, horseback riding and hunting became his passions. Later in life, Tom found his passion with his business, Banes Lubadraulics, which he owned and operated for 33 years.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Richard Banes. He is survived by his long-time wife, Nancy Banes; his children, Stacey Banes and Brandon Banes (Alicia); his grandchildren, Samantha, Megan, Avery, Matthew and Riley. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Calahan (Gordon); her children, Devin Ferebee (Susanne and son, Dylan) and Kurtis Ferebee; and his sister-in-law, Jane (Janie) Banes.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2015, 10:00 a.m., at FRENCH - Wyoming followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, NM Chapter, P.O. Box 21400, Albuquerque, NM 87154.
