Wilburn Henry Griffin, AKA "POP" went to be with His Lord on Thursday, June 9th, 2022. He is preceded in death by his lovely wife, Bethel, with whom he shared over 70 years of marriage. God blessed their close relationship with three delightful children; John, Kathie, and Marty. In addition, four grandchildren; John (bo), Matt, James, and Amanda. He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren; Amaris, Mathin, Griffin, Lily, and Jabin; joined the family. Needless to say, owing to Wilburn's remarkably long life, he said farewell to scores of family members too numerous to mention. Each, however, was near and dear to his heart.
Will and Beth were an adventurous couple. They took many road trips to America's heartland. they were particularly fond of rodeos. Will Griffin, seasoned sailor, served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Essex during the Korean conflict. His thirty-four year career with the Santa Fe railroad saw him ascend the ranks to General Superintendent. He was a valued friend to his colleagues, whether rummaging in the grease underneath a locomotive or donning a three piece suit in a business meeting. Even during his retirement he continued to be a railroad enthusiast.
His treasured Arkansas/Missouri childhood memories made him an accomplished storyteller. Pop did not hesitate to share these stories with anyone remotely interested.
For everyone who knew him, Pop is loved to the degree with which he loved others, which was considerable.
We love you, Pop. You will surely be missed.
