Wendy Jiacoletti, age 68, devoted mother, grandmother, beloved sister, favorite aunt, and steadfast friend, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2022.
Wendy was born to Patricia and Richard J. Jiacoletti on Sunday November 1, 1953, the second of three children, in Laramie, WY. She grew up in various locations across the West, including Wyoming, Colorado, California, and Washington state. She fondly recalled the gloom of living in Seattle, as the perfect backdrop to teenage melodrama, the apex of which was missing the Beetles perform there in 1966, by mere days because the family moved back to Wyoming. She graduated from Laramie High School in the spring of 1972, and began attending the University of Wyoming the following year. She married Ronald Jones in June of 1974. Wendy graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1976, with honors, and four years later gave birth to her “Angel Baby,” daughter, Devon Jones, in February of 1980 in Casper, WY. In the summer of 1983, Wendy was divorced and moved with Devon to Albuquerque, New Mexico to be closer to her parents.
Shortly after moving to Albuquerque, Wendy began a dedicated 30+ year career, to the Bernalillo Sheriff’s Department, where she started in Court Services and retired as a Payroll Specialist. She loved her “guys” (and gals) in uniform and was a staunch supporter of law enforcement. She claimed she would die at her desk, but she retired from the Sheriff’s Department in 2016, when she started her second career as Grammie to Dante, and four years later, David. She spoiled her grandsons (and daughter) to no end. Her heart and soul belonged to them; everything she did, she did for Devon from the moment she was born, and later for her grandsons.
Wendy was known for her brashness and colorful vocabulary. She didn’t hold back when she disagreed with something or someone. On the flipside, if she liked you, she held you tight in her good graces and would have done anything for you.
Wendy is survived by her daughter, Devon Hodges and husband Dustin; grandsons, Dante and David. She is also survived by brothers, Richard Jiacoletti and partner Bettina Eklund, Peter Jiacoletti and wife Debbie. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews, including but not limited to Richie Jiacoletti, wife Hannah and son Ozzy, Rachael Jiacoletti and children Mesa and Xavi; and Rebecca Sharp and husband Danny. Wendy also left behind one noisy cat, Poopoo, lovingly taken in by daughter, Devon and family. Wendy was preceded in death by her parents, Patricia and Richard J. Jiacoletti; and niece Dawn Jiacoletti.
A joint memorial for Wendy and her mother, Patricia, will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at 2:00pm at FRENCH-Lomas, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made to your local ASPCA, Wounded Warrior Project, or the United States Deputy Sheriff’s Association.
